Service NL Policy Changes for Building Design Review

Service NL, the branch of the provincial government that is responsible for Fire and Life Safety, has made a significant change to its policies for Building Plan Reviews which will affect some PEGNL-licenced engineers. The Department will now accept the stamp of either a Professional Engineer or Architect on building plans and National Building Code of Canada Plan Check Forms submitted to Service NL for approval. Previously Service NL was accepting submissions by Architects only. The changes to the Service NL National Building Code Form appear in Section 28 (General Notes and Requirements) - Items 2. and 4.

Engineers affected by this policy change are reminded that they are bound by the PEGNL Code of Ethics and by their general duty of public protection to always restrict their practice to within the limits of their own area of competence.
