Design a Poster Contest 

Theme:   Design the Future

Background: 
Ever wonder how the music gets in to the radio? How a computer works? How people breathe under water or in outer space? These are the things that have challenged engineers in the past and will continue to do so in the future. This century will be extraordinary and will challenge engineers to design systems and structures that allow people to live and work safely and comfortably in extreme conditions and withstand the forces of the elements. We want you to discover the engineer in you by drawing a poster showing engineers or their inventions, and win a prize.

Rules:
1. This contest is open to all Kindergarten to Grade 3 students in Newfoundland and Labrador. 

2. Entries will be separated into two groups based on the student's grade level. Grades K-1 = Group A. Grades 2-3 = Group B. 

3. Posters must be received by the National Engineering & Geoscience Week Committee at the address below, no later than 4:00 p.m. February 12, 2010.

4. Each student can enter only one poster. 

5. Poster size must be one side of a standard 8 ½ x 14 sheet of paper or cardboard. 

6. Coloured pencils, markers, crayons, paint or any combination may be used. 

7. The student's name, age, grade, teacher's name, school and school's mailing address must be clearly printed on the reverse side of each poster.

Judging Criteria: 
1. Visual appearance - 10 points 
2. Originality and creativity - 10 points 
3. Appropriateness to theme - 10 points

Prizes: 
Prizes will be given for the top three entries in each of Group A and Group B in four areas: St. John's, Central, Western and Labrador

1st Prize: One Science Kit 
2nd Prize: One T- Shirt 
3rd Prize: One T- Shirt
