Call for Nominations for PEGNL Awards 2012
Professional engineers and professional
geoscientists often fail to promote themselves and acknowledge the efforts
of their peers. As a result, opportunities are missed to credit others for
their efforts and recognize ourselves professionally.
Through nomination for the PEGNL Awards,
you can help recognize deserving individuals. PEGNL has seven awards:
Award of Merit, Award for Service, the Environmental Award, the Early
Accomplishment Award, the Community Service Award, the Teaching Award and,
for non-members, Honorary Membership.
Please take the time to read the
following descriptions and then nominate your deserving nominee.
Additional information, lists of former recipients and a nomination form
are also available at
www.pegnl.ca/awards. Nominations should be sent by
February 28, 2012.
Award of Merit
Established to recognize members of PEGNL who have made outstanding
contributions to the profession and/or to the community.
Award for Service
Awarded to members of PEGNL who
have served their profession diligently for many years and who have also
made substantial contributions to PEGNL and to the advancement of the
professions.
Early Accomplishment Award
Given to PEGNL members in recognition of exceptional achievement in the
early years of the professional career of an engineer or geoscientist. The
member will have shown outstanding work-related achievement and notable
leadership in the profession and /or community within ten years of
eligibility for professional registration in Canada.
Environmental Award
Recognizes the application of science, technology and engineering to human
and resource environmental management in Newfoundland and Labrador. Its
purpose is to emphasize the use of science, technology, and modern
organization techniques by the professions and others to protect and
enhance the environment.
Community Service Award
Given to PEGNL members in recognition of outstanding service and
dedication to society. The award recognizes a substantial contribution to
the well-being of society through community organizations,
government-sponsored activities or humanitarian work. The contribution may
be made in one or more of the fields of social service, religion,
politics, education, sports, recreation or the arts and may include either
voluntary or paid service, elected or appointed. Sustained activity over
an extended period of time is an asset.
Teaching Award
Recognizes an exemplary contribution by an individual in the areas of
engineering and/or geoscience education
Honorary Membership
Non-members are eligible to receive Honorary Membership in our
organization, as provided for in the by-laws. Honorary Membership in PEGNL
may be granted by the Board of Directors to a person eminent in the professions of
Engineering or Geoscience or outside these professions who, in the opinion
of Council, has uniquely distinguished himself/herself; who is not a
member of PEGNL; and is not otherwise eligible for Life Membership.
If you are aware of any other awards
relevant to our professions which are granted by other groups and
organizations, please inform the PEGNL Awards Committee. Outside service
groups and industry associations often award companies and individuals for
various reasons. PEGNL would like to take a proactive approach in
nominating its members for these awards.
If you have any nominations or
information useful to the Awards Committee, please contact Geoff Emberley at
the PEGNL office, Phone 709-753-7714, Fax 709-753-6131, or email
