Jeremy Hall, P.Geo. has received Memorial’s president’s award for his exceptional service to the community through his work as visiting geologist at the Manuels River site and in establishing the Johnson Geo Centre. Nalcor is holding a series of open houses to inform the public about the Lower Churchill Project. Gilbert Bennett, P.Eng. says the objective is to introduce people to the project; and to give people the opportunity to voice concerns and ask questions. Congratulations to Fred Cahill, P.Eng. as a 2010 inductee into the Junior Achievement of Newfoundland Business Hall of Fame. The inductees were announced by Honourary chair Earl Ludlow, P.Eng. Also, Fred’s company – G. J. Cahill Ltd. – has once again been named one of Canada’s 50 Top Managed Companies. Krista Hancock, P.Eng., a Senior Structural Engineer, has joined AE Consultants. The price that we pay for electricity may be going up soon. The reason? According to Jim Haynes, P.Eng. of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, it is because the price of oil required for electricity generation at Holyrood Generating Station is forecast to increase significantly. Dr. Shawn Kenny, P.Eng. has been appointed the Wood Group Chair in Arctic and Cold Region Engineering at MUN. Dr.Kenny’s specialty is offshore pipelines in ice environments, with a focus on strain-based design of pipeline systems. Tony King, P.Eng., of C-CORE, described a considerable resource of methane gas hydrates off the east coast at a recent workshop. Randy Gillespie, P.Geo., and Charles Randell, P.Eng. also participated in the workshop. Earl Ludlow, P.Eng. was recently installed as honorary colonel of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. Former Director of Public Works for City of St. John’s Paul Mackey, P.Eng., has been named Deputy City Manager. Walt Mills, P.Eng., is the new head of engineering at the City of St. John’s. He replaced recently-retired Art Cheeseman, P.Eng. Dr. Aziz Rahman, P.Eng. was inducted as a new Fellow into the Canadian Academy of Engineering. Dr. Rahman is an electrical engineering professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.
The late Dr. Jim Wright, P.Geo. [who was PEGNL’s Chair Elect when
he passed away], was posthumously awarded the Newfoundland and Labrador
Oil and Gas Industry Association [NOIA] 2010 Outstanding Contribution
Award, as “a teacher, researcher, entrepreneur and volunteer who devoted
40 years of his life to the oil & gas industry in Newfoundland &
Labrador.”
