CEMF announces 2010 undergrad scholarship recipients, including Erin Dwyer from Newfoundland & Labrador

As the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation [CEMF] marks its 20th Anniversary, it recently announced five undergraduate scholarship winners.

These five remarkable women represent all regions of the country and are strong role models and ambassadors for the engineering profession.

Erin Dwyer has been named one of the five top undergraduate engineering students across Canada by the Foundation and will receive a $5,000 CEMF Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship in recognition of her accomplishments.

She joined the other winners at the CEMF Awards Luncheon in Vancouver, on May 28, 2010, hosted by Engineers Canada.

Erin is the Atlantic region recipient. A native of Harbour Grace, she is a fourth-year chemical engineering student at Dalhousie University. Erin originally considered a career in nursing but realized that engineering “was the ultimate marriage of math and science.” For the past 10 years, she has been involved in the Canadian Cadet movement and is now serving as an Officer and instructor. She is involved in various aspects of student government and societies, including serving as vice-president external of the Dalhousie Undergraduate Engineering Society.

Each year, the Foundation grants scholarships to outstanding undergraduate and graduate female engineering students.

The 2011 scholarship deadline is January 14, 2011. For more information, go to www.cemf.ca.

The CEMF is dedicated to attracting women to the engineering profession so that they may fully contribute to the development of society. In so doing, they honour the memory of the 14 women from Montreal’s L' École Polytechnique whose contributions to Canada ended on December 6, 1989.

CEMF’s Board consists of a group of prominent members of Canada's engineering and business communities, including PEGNL member John Evans, P.Eng.

CEMF is a Registered Canadian Charitable Foundation.
