Engineering and Technology Labour Market Study

Engineers, have you taken part in the national survey yet?

By participating, you will contribute to the research needed to provide a better understanding of the current and future employment needs by analysing trends affecting 725,000 professionals who are in engineering and technology occupations.

This study is an initiative of Engineers Canada and the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT), in partnership with Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC).

The objectives of the Study are to collect and analyse labour market information to:

  • inform the planning and integration of international engineering graduates;
  • better understand the changing work and skill sets required by the engineering team today and in the future;
  • depict a detailed picture of supply and demand; and,
  • identify labour force and skills implications from various economic realities.

Ultimately, findings will be used to formulate recommendations with respect to policies and strategic initiatives related to skills and labour development.

Recognizing that certain factors are necessitating ongoing changes in human resources and skills development, this detailed forward-looking study will focus on the development of:

  • a current demand forecast;
  • a demographic and supply analysis;
  • an analysis of attitudes and policies towards licensure, certification, continuing competence and work task boundaries;
  • a diversity study; and,
  • an analysis of the globalization of the profession.
