Engineers Move Down on 2007 Profession Barometer

Leger Marketing released its 2007 Profession Barometer in May, noting that "Engineers have managed to remain in the group of most trusted professions but still lost five points. This drop is more significant in Québec, the Atlantic Provinces and the Prairies. The tragic collapse of an overpass in Québec in September 2006 has no doubt contributed to lowering the level of confidence in engineers."

Firefighters, nurses and farmers remain the top three professions that Canadians trust most. Levels of trust increased for: lawyers (+4), insurance brokers (+4), real estate agents (+4), police officers (+3) and unionists (+3). The biggest drops were registered for: publicists (-9), engineers (-5), economists (-5), judges (-4), bankers (-4) and pollsters (-4).

The same seven professions, as in 2006, remained at the top, all with percentages above 80% [2007 results shown in parentheses]. They are: firefighters [97%], nurses [94%], farmers [92%], teachers [89%], doctors [87%], police officers [84%] and engineers [83%].
