PEGNL Environment Committee Award Nominations

The Environment Committee is now seeking nominations for the PEGNL Environment Award. Nominations must be received by mid-February 2008. The award will be presented at the PEGNL AGM on June 13, 2008. Criteria, information and nomination form can be found on the PEGNL website at http://www.pegnl.ca/membership/awards/index.htm

The EC is currently planning a series of Uranium seminars addressing exploration, mining and environmental issues to be held in St. Johns in late January and in Goose Bay, Labrador around the 3rd week of June 2008.

The EC has established two new EC subcommittees. These are Climate Change (Alan Kirby, Chair) which will review how climate change is affecting the work of engineers and geoscientists and identify key information to be communicated to PEGNL members, and Environmental Risk Assessment/ Management (Mike Wawrkzow, Chair) which will bring together engineers and geoscientists actively involved in risk assessment and remediation work to discuss risk models, identify common issues and potential solutions, develop training opportunities and enhance capacity in the province.

The PEGNL Environment Committee (EC) meets monthly. Members are Charlie Riggs (Chair); Leo White (PEGNL Staff liaison); Abigail Steel, Ken Dominie, Alan Kirby, Kevin Power, Earl Dwyer, Mike Wawrkzow, Natalie Jette and Chris Soper.

Contact Charlie Riggs at Charlie.Riggs@amec.com for information on any of the above or to become involved.
