So What Should we do About the Waterfront?

The Newfoundland Association of Architects (NAA) is hosting a Design Charrette on June 8th and 9th, 2007, and PEGNL members are invited to join in.

The Charrette is an opportunity for professionals to get together with citizens and stakeholders to share and draw what they imagine Harbour Drive and the St. John's Waterfront could and should be.

"It is our fervent desire that this event be instructive, informative, revealing and, above all, fun," says Sandy Gibbons of the NAA. "We hope that it will encourage new discussion about what makes St. John's such a special place to live in and visit."

NAA has received formal endorsement from the City of St. John's; the St. John's Port Authority; the Downtown Development Corporation; The Planners Institute of Newfoundland and Labrador; and the Landscape Architects Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.

On Friday, June 8th, all interested citizens are invited to come listen to a wide variety of guest speakers who will be presenting various readings of key issues surrounding the past, present, and future of Harbour Drive, the Waterfront, and the City of St. John's.

On Saturday morning, the NAA will cover the walls in paper and divide into design teams. Lead by the architects, each team will conceive, develop, and draw their designs - all ideas are welcome!

The Charrette will conclude with the presentation and discussion of the day's work on Saturday afternoon.
